The Redbird's story.

"Maybe thats how he shows he /looooooves/ you." Tyler said laguhing

Cora flushed with anger but said nothing. She filled up her bucket quickly.

Elliot finished her bath a few minutes later and stood up. She wrung her hair out and stepped out, shivering from the cold. She quickly got dressed, wearing her dress she wore to bed. She finished wringing out her hair until it wasn't dripping anymore and took the bucket and began pouring the water back out the window that she had used in her bath.

Tyler conutied to laguh as he filled his own bucket up. He set it on the ground and cupped some water out and drank some.

Cora sighed and lifted the bucket with some difficulty, but she managed. She looked up and saw that the sun was setting.

"Goodnight, Tyler," she said, since she wouldn't see him again before they went to bed. She took her bucket and began walking back to her home, thinking about what he had said.

Ellioit finished a few moments later and walked back out into the other room. Her mother was sitting at the table, sewing a hole Elliot had ripped in her dress that day.

Tyler nodded. "'night."

Blake was waiting outside with a candle.

Cora made it to her house and saw Blake waiting outsdie with a candle. She walked up to him, holding the bucket in both hands.

Elliot sat down at the table and helped her mother sew the holes in their clothes. They couldn't afford new ones so they had to keep the ones they had in good shape. Elliot accidentally poked herself with the needle and started bleeding. Her mother smield softly at her and helped her finish sewing while she held her finger tightly.

Blake sat the the candle on a emty box. He pulled aot the rad his mother had given him. She had told him to wash his face outside to make it easier to dump the water.

Cora handed Blake the bucket wordless, thinking about what Tyler had said still.

Blake sat the bucket down. HYe dipped the rag in then started to wash his face. The dirt came off to reval his pale skin. For some reason nomatter how long he played in the sun he couldn't tan.

Cora watched Blake silently, waiting for him to finish so they could go inside.

Blake looked up as he washed his face. "If you like I'll fecth you Heather. In the morning. " Blake said.

"Yes, thank you," Cora said, avoiding his gaze. She didn't want to talk to him right now.

Blake stood back up and kicked the bucket over letting the water out. He handed Cors the bucket and went to pick up the candle.

Cora took the bucket from him and walked to the door, opening it and walking inside without waiting for him.

Blke followed, the sun had already set. He sat the candle down on the table next to another already bruning one. He carefully blew it out.

Cora walked inside and straight up to the room she shared with her sisters, that Blake would be staying in tonight.

Blake was hugged by their mother the walked up after Cora.

Cora didn't bother changing out of her day clothes. She sat down on the edge of her bed, still not speaking.

Blake sat on the floor next to Cora's bed, waiting for her to say that she was ready for to sleep.

Layla came into the room that she shared with Cora and Sally. "Blake get out we have to change", she said looking at her brother.

Sally came in after Layla and went over to her bed and waited for Blake to leave.

Blake nodded and left closeing the door behind him.

He waited in the hall.

Sally didn't say anything and got out her nightgown and quickly changed into it.

Layla watched him leave then changed into her night gown as well.

Cora sighed and stood up, quickly changing into the dress she wore to bed.

"Time for bed, Elliot," Elliot's mother siad, standing up. Elliot nodded and followed her mother upstairs.

Blake sat down, and yawn.

Tyler yawned ad walked out side to the little barn the hearts had. He liked to sleep in the Hey.

Cora, having forgotten about Blake and not really caring either way, lay down on her bed.

Elliot's mother tucked her into bed, and kissed her on the forehead.

"Goodnight, Elliot," she said.

"Goodnight, mama," Elliot said as she walked out of the room, closing the door behind her, leaving Elliot in the darkness.
